We all get the post lunch dip or the craving for something sweet come the end of the week (me and my friends refer to this as ‘Fat Girl Friday’ – the best day of the week) and my weakness for quite some time now has been banana bread!
Paired with a beautifully crafted latte or flat white, you have a power couple…
The generous being that I am, I thought I would share my top picks in & around London to satisfy your tastebuds and tired eyes after too many late nights catching up with How To Make A Murderer. Power through hump day or reward yourself with a tasty brunch option…there’s a banana bread for every occasion! Enjoy. 1. Flat White
Okay, so they named the shop after a coffee…this must be good right? Wrong, this place is better than good. The energy from the staff itself in this quant little cafe placed in the heart of Soho is enough to widen your eyes first thing on a dismal Monday morning but their sweet banana loaf with the welcome hit of cinnamon is a DREAM. And yes, I would recommend the flat white to accompany.
Location: 17 Berwick Street, Soho
This little gem in Goodge Street (also found in Shoreditch and Camden) is home to the tastiest coffee in London. Strong, but intensely smooth, I would recommend pairing the dreamy toasted banana bread with a latte (my personal favourite). If you’re not in rush, opt for the ‘in’ cafe where the banana bread comes served with creamy honey ricotta and bitter dark chocolate biscuit crumbs (it is however £7 instead of the £3 take out price).
Location: 13 Charlotte Place, Goodge Street
Hammersmith is a popular choice amongst many of my friends in the South West thanks to their stunning almond lattes and creamy flat whites. Paired with their one of a kind toasted banana bread, this is one place guaranteed to get your Friday off to a good start! If it’s en route to work, definitely take advantage of their loyalty card – because no matter how many you have to buy beforehand (5 in this instance) nothing is better than FREE COFFEE!
Location: 28 Fulham Palace Road, Hammersmith
Situated in the lovely Granary Square, Grain Store makes the perfect spot for a Saturday brunch date. Beautifully decorated with super friendly staff, the coffee certainly does the place justice and is light, creamy and somewhat florally – all made better by the incredible banana bread. Served with a light vanilla ricotta, the subtle sweetness of the two is complimented by the warm, sharp passionfruit sauce which I wouldn’t have thought to use before! It’s rich, but I would be surprised if you struggled to devour the whole thing as it is truly delicious. Can’t wait to come back here in the Summer when the sun seeps through this charming restaurant.
Location: Granary Squte, Kings Cross
Situated on Lower Richmond Road, this is my favourite Sunday resting place following a walk along the river in Putney. The cafe itself is really homely and expands to a wider dining space, something you wouldn’t expect when you first approach it. The coffee is just gorgeous (they do an amazing mocha if you’re really craving sugar) and the banana bread is soft, fluffy and bursting with fruity flavour. It’s a tough pick amongst many of their other delicious baked goods though!
