The Cake & Bake Show, London 2015

An entire event dedicated to cake?! Of course we were there, and for the second year running too.

Taking place this year at London ExCel, The Cake and Bake Show hosted an incredible amount of exhibitors, all with a passion for food. There were stalls specifically for cake craft and decorating (which were probably the most fascinating), general baking/cooking equipment, homeware and much, much more. Beware, everything is simply adorable and you will convince yourself you need every single food flavouring available.

When feeling a little peckish, you can stop by the abundance of food  stalls selling predictable treats such as macaroons (a lot of macaroons), fudge, pies, bread, marshmallows…you get the idea. We even bumped into The Meringue Girls who seemed to be selling out of stock fast!

The great thing about this show is that when you’re in need of a little foot rest too, there are cook alongs, cake decorating sessions and demonstrations going on throughout the day. Some of the selected masterclasses hosted by the show are of course pre-booked but other live demonstrations are free.

This year’s successor was The Great British Bake Off Live, featuring live demonstrations from familiar faces such as John Whaite, Frances Quinn, Edd Kimber, Jo Wheatley and Richard Burr. We managed to see Beca Lyne Pirkis bake savoury macaroons – she makes them look so easy that I’ve almost overcame my fear of them.

Last, but not least, the highlight of the entire event has to be the show competition area where you will witness the most incredible baked creations! This year’s theme was children’s stories…told through cake. Trust me, it sounds just as incredible as it was and the perfect way to end the show.

If you know someone who’s baking mad or simply loves food, this event is cheap and cheerful and tours some of the UK so there’s no excuse not to pop along.

See pictures from some of my favourite show competition entries below (if they won’t make you want to go, I don’t know what will):

You have some great cake shows in your area. I have heard a lot of talk about Cake International being the top of the line cake event. I so wish I could go. Maybe in the future. Looks like a great event!
